Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber

Book Review: Once Upon a Broken Heart

Stephanie Garber has done it again! Magical, enchanting, and completely mesmerizing, Once Upon a Broken Heart will not disappoint fans of the Caraval series! Even if you haven’t read the Caraval series, you will get swept away into the imaginative universe that Garber has created.

The book revolves around the main characters, Evangeline Fox and the Prince of Hearts, Jacks. Evangeline Fox is the lovable, charming protagonist, one who you can’t help but adore. She believes in “happily ever after” and is determined to find true love. She is loyal to those she cares for, and will do whatever it takes to solve the mystery of what happened to her beloved Luc, the young man she believes to be cursed. In comparison, Jacks is a Fate, one who is cunning and devious, and yet, completely fascinating. Evangeline makes a deal with Jacks, even though she was always told “never make a deal with a Fate.” This bargain leads to a series of very unexpected events and an unlikely alliance between Evangeline and Jacks.

True to its name, Once Upon a Broken Heart is filled with unrequited love and broken hearts, yet it is also a story of a young woman’s hope and strength. Evangeline is a resilient character, her determination and courage help her to overcome the obstacles that she encounters. The themes of love, family, and standing up for what you believe in, are present throughout the book.

Overall, I adored this book, and I cannot wait for Stephanie Garber’s next installment in this new series! It was such a fun escape, back into the Caraval universe! I hope that we don’t have to wait too long for the next book…who knows what Jacks has up his sleeve and will Evangeline finally get her happily ever after?! 💔
