Book Review: The Girls (series)

This series consists of three books: Party Girl, Sweet Girl, and Smart Girl. The main character changes in each of these books, but they all intertwine and each character appears in all three, which is awesome.

I had never read one of Rachel Hollis’ books before — she is primarily known for her self-help books (such as, “Girl, Stop Apologizing”), but I was pleasantly surprised to see that she wrote a few fiction books. I was drawn in by the synopsis and the cute, girly covers. They make for the perfect beach read, as they are fun, light, and full of romance. I’ve mentioned this term before, but I like to categorize these books as what I call, “fluff.” They aren’t serious by any means, but rather cute and uplifting reads.

In each of these books, the main character is trying to find herself and figure out what she wants to do in terms of her career and relationship. Party Girl focuses around Landon, who is an event planner and has had enough of her terrible boss. She embarks on a journey to start her own firm with her best friend, and graphic designer, Miko (the star of the third installment, Smart Girl). Landon receives much advice from her stubborn roommate, Max, who later becomes the center of the second book, Sweet Girl. All three of these books illustrate the hardships and rewards of pursuing your dreams and doing what makes you truly happy. They serve as a great reminder that life is short, so why waste time — embark on your journey to accomplish your goals! They also demonstrate that we are responsible for creating our own happiness.

In short, I recommend these books. They each make for a very quick read, but worth it! They may be hard to find at local bookstores, so you’ll probably have to head to Amazon, but they’re reasonably priced. If you decide to read them, then I hope you enjoy this series as much as I did!
