Always, in December by Emily Stone
Book Review: Always, in December
An emotional and heartbreaking story about self-discovery and love, Emily Stone’s Always, in December is a moving novel that you won’t want to miss. This book is more than just a seasonal romance and will inspire its readers to reflect on what’s truly important in life.
The story surrounds the main character, Josie Morgan. Josie is a marketing professional working for a PR firm in London, who lost her parents on Christmas Eve 20 years prior. Every Christmas season, Josie tries to avoid holiday festivities, as they are a painful reminder of the tragic accident that took the lives of her parents. There is only one tradition she holds on to, which is mailing a letter that she knows will never reach its destination.
After an upsetting break up with her cheating boyfriend, and a less than ideal work situation, Josie sets off to mail her letter. While on her way biking through the city, she runs into (literally) a stranger, Max Carter. Max is only in London due to a delayed flight to New York to visit his family for the holidays, and the encounter with Josie sparks a fleeting and unlikely romance.
Throughout the story, Josie experiences personal growth and recognizes what is truly important to her. Through self-discovery, she is able to determine her passions, learn from the loss and grief she has faced, and focus on being “present” in the moment.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it! I would definitely have a box of tissues nearby, as it is very emotional. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! :)
