Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux and Dracula by Bram Stoker
Book Reviews: Phantom of the Opera & Dracula
Spooky season is upon us! You know what that means? Time to grab a cup of coffee/tea and get out the eerie novels!🎃🦇👻
Last year, I read Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux, as well as Dracula by Bram Stoker. I loved both of these books, they were so unique and equally haunting. While Phantom of the Opera is focused on revenge, violence, and forbidden love (mainly that love between two people cannot be forced), Dracula is focused on madness, fear, money, and the importance of gathering support from people you trust.
These books both contain strong characters, and at times you will question their decisions, but the suspense in each book will keep you wanting to read more! I do want to note that Dracula is written in the form of journal entries, I think this makes it really intriguing, but it may bother some people. I should also note that Phantom of the Opera was published back in 1909 and Dracula came out in 1897, so the language will be a bit different than contemporary novels (I really enjoy reading classic literature, but I know some people don’t enjoy it as much).
If you’re looking for gothic and dark novels to read this Halloween season, I definitely recommend checking out these two classics! I loved them and I hope that you do too!
*Side note: Check out this gorgeous Folio edition of Phantom! I can’t get over the intricate details! I also love this World Cloud edition of Dracula. :)
