Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
Book Review: Anxious People
Fun, witty, and highly entertaining, Anxious People makes for a great novel! I had never read any of Fredrik Backman’s books prior to this one, but I really enjoyed his writing style.
This quirky book involves an unexpected hostage situation with a unique group of people, after a failed attempt at a bank robbery (if you can even call it a robbery). The author shifts perspectives, going between the story of the hostages and the cops who are trying to solve the mystery of who the bank robber could be. The shift in perspectives makes this book a very quick read, as you want to solve the mystery.
The themes of compassion and kindness, friendship, forgiveness, and hope are present throughout the story. There were times while reading this book that I was actually laughing out loud. Aside from the humorous aspects, it also touched on heavier topics — such as suicide, grief, and the power of moving forward.
After hearing much praise for Anxious People by Fredrik Backman, I wasn’t sure if this book would live up to its expectations; however, it surely did! I was pleasantly surprised to discover just how great this novel truly is and I hope that even more people read it in 2021!
Overall, I highly recommend this read. :)
