The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
Book Review: The Midnight Library
A novel that truly exemplifies the importance of making the most out of each moment and living life to the fullest. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig is a wonderful book, that sheds light on how easy it is to take things for granted.
The main character, Nora Seed, is on the verge of death, when she enters the world of the Midnight Library. She has lived her life full of regret and self-sabotaging behavior, and now she has the chance to discover what her life could be if she had made different choices.
The themes of this book are family, friendship, regret, choices, mental health, and embracing life. Throughout the novel, Nora has to make many choices and overcome several internal obstacles and battle her depression. The author illustrates the importance of recognizing that we are in control of our lives. The choices we make are ours alone; with every mistake we make, we can still learn from, and make the most of, each experience.
After reading this book, it gave me a new, fresh perspective — life is too short to live with regret, as this will only hold us back and make us fearful. It’s easy to dwell on past mistakes and keep ourselves from finding happiness. We need to live in the present moment and not worry about things that are beyond our control, or the negativity that is surrounding us in the world. We need to stay positive and recognize that each and every day is truly a gift to make the most of.
Overall, The Midnight Library is a moving novel that is a quick read and definitely worth it! I highly recommend reading it.
