Book Review: This Time Next Year

An unexpected love story between two people of very different backgrounds, This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens is a read to remember. Plus, who doesn’t love a main character named Minnie Cooper?!

This book is so much more than just a romantic comedy, it exemplifies the importance of finding oneself and not giving up on one’s dreams. When things get hard and we feel like there’s no hope, this story shows the reader that there’s always a solution, as long as we are willing to keep trying.

The lead characters, Minnie and Quinn, come from completely different backgrounds, but the lessons they are capable of teaching one another are memorable. As cliché as it may sound, this novel illustrates that everything happens for a reason and that there is a lesson to learn from each experience in life.

The themes of friendship, family, believing in oneself, and mental health, are present throughout this book. The topic of mental health used to be taboo in society, which is why it is particularly moving that this book sheds light on how important it is to take care of one’s mental health. It also shows how critical it is for us to face/overcome our fears; even if it means simply taking small steps to achieve personal growth.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it! It is so much more than your typical romance novel. Not to mention, I loved the descriptions of the various places in London! This book definitely makes for a great read to start the new year!
