Throne of Glass (series) by Sarah J. Maas
Book Review: Throne of Glass (series)
Adventure, romance, suspense, and fantasy, you won’t want want to miss out on the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas! A story about finding oneself, personal growth, overcoming challenges and fears, and standing up for what is right, this book series will keep readers captivated from start to finish.
If you’ve read the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and you’re in search of another series that will keep you enthralled, then definitely check out The Throne of Glass books. I was hesitant at first, as I’d heard mixed reviews about this series, but it ended up being amazing.
Throughout the novels, the reader will be introduced to the various main characters, but the best part is experiencing their growth and development as they become stronger throughout each book. From Celaena Sardothien, Chaol Westfall, and Dorian Havilliard, to later books which include Manon Blackbeak, Nesryn, Lysandra, and Yrene, be prepared to fall in love with these characters as they discover who they are meant to be.
There are many themes throughout the series, the most prominent being good vs. evil, power, love, friendship, survival, and mental health. The reader will experience the main character, Celaena Sardothien, recognize the detrimental outcomes of corrupt power and good vs. evil, while also experiencing love and friendship, and handling/managing various mental health struggles (depression, anxiety, etc., not only in herself, but also in those she cares about).
I think it’s important to note that these books are categorized as “young adult;” however, they include graphic battle scenes, some heavy topics, and romance, that really make them appeal to adults as well! I’d probably put them more in the “new adult” category or just fun for everyone (haha!). I know a lot of adults can shy away from books that may be categorized as YA, but I’d definitely give these a try if you’re a fantasy lover or a fan of the author’s other series (ACOTAR).
Overall, I really enjoyed these books and the lessons that were present throughout — I wish I’d read them years ago, but I’m glad I finally got to read them this year! I definitely recommend them, they’re worth the adventure, so what are you waiting for?! Go check them out! :)
